Child Counseling

Child Mental Health Specialist

As a child and family therapist of twenty plus years I meet the WAC (Washington Administrative Code 388-865-0150) as a Child Mental Health Specialist. As a Child Mental Health Specialist I work with children and teens between the ages of four and eighteen years old.

In order to be qualified as a Child Mental Health Specialist, I have met the WAC requirements by participating in over one hundred hours of specialized training with youth and their families that have social and emotional issues. Another part of obtaining the Child Mental Health Specialization was my experience working, for over five years, under the supervision of a Child Mental Health Specialist.

Background & Experience

My experience includes working at a Ryther Child Center, a residential treatment center for children and teens with social and emotional challenges, Seattle Mental Health as a child and adolescent clinician and a school-based therapist, and Childhaven where I served as a director of the therapeutic intervention program for children birth to five years old.

I have maintained my private therapy practice since 1991. I treat children and teens with anxiety and depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. I have expertise in working with children and teens in divorce situations.

Focus on Children

Children in all ages and stages that come to therapy can expect a nurturing and developmentally informed therapeutic experience. I use play therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy with this population. The therapy is goal-directed and parents are updated regularly on their children’s experience and progress in the therapeutic process.
